I’m always looking for ways to reduce my carbon foot print and replace synthetic products with more environmentally friendly products. So, when I lost my trusty travel pillow on my last flight I wanted to replace it with a more sustainable one. PineTales sent me a buckwheat pillow and you know what? My little head freakin’ loves it!

PineTales, a small family company, has several shapes and sizes of buckwheat pillows, however I tested their travel size pillow (20″X 14″). After several weeks I found that it adjusts well to my head and shoulders. It feels gentle under my head but firm enough to keep from going flat. Bonus – the pillow is adjustable so you can add or remove the filling. The outer cover is made from organic bamboo and machine washable. I could go on but for the sake of time (both of ours) I will give you my top 6 reasons why it’s worth it.

What is Buckwheat?

Buckwheat are the outer shells that house the seeds of buckwheat grain. The hulls are strong and do not retain or reflect heat.

#1 Life Span

Normal pillows do not last as long and tend to flatten after years or months of use. The average buckwheat pillow lasts around 10 years and it keeps it shape with time. Making it a great investment.

#2 Washability

You can only wash the outer cover on your pillow following the manufacturers instructions on the case. The outer cover is made from organic bamboo and machine washable. The buckwheat hulls cannot be washed but if you find that they are getting old you can replace them. Just make sure you only buy organic buckwheat for your pillow.

#3 Dust Mite Resistant

Buckwheat is naturally dust mite resistant because let’s face it traditional pillows definitely are not!

#4 Hypo-Allergenic

Buckwheat is naturally hypo allergenic. This means an allergy free alternative to feather or synthetic fibers.

#5 Non Toxic

It is naturally non toxic. Which means you will never have to worry about yourself or children being harmed by any chemicals in the material. PineTales only uses the highest quality of buckwheat which is guaranteed pesticide free

#6 Environmentally Friendly

They can be disposed of without adding toxins, chemicals, or pollutants into the atmosphere. Buckwheat is renewable and nothing is used from any animals. Making it great for the environment. Plus it is made in Sunny AZ, USA.
