Fijian Conua School Drive

Last week we stayed at the Outrigger Resort on the Fijian Island of Nadi. The Outrigger, aside from being beautiful and perfect for families, has a philanthropic side too. It gives back to its community through their efforts with the Conua (pronounced Thonua) School.

When the Outrigger first discovered the struggling school in 2010, it had holes in the roof and a pass rate of 30%. Now with enrollment higher than ever the students have a library, a computer lab, and more smiles than you can imagine. Oh, and last year their pass rate was 89%!

We were able to spend a day touring the school, teaching English in a classroom, and playing with the children. I reached a point of connection while there and just breathed in the island and these children. Their big smiles and jovial nature bounding all around me. The chaos of their vibrancy is a spirit of childhood. They communicate through touch like most children, by high fives, rustling my kids hair, picking them up, etc..

I left knowing that I wanted to help.
The school has come a long way, but it’s a school in a developing country that is in need of basic items that we take for granted. Even with the cost of school being free there are other expenses that many families have a hard time paying for. I am talking basic things like pencils and paper.

How To Help

I am reaching out to you guys to help me send some much needed items to the school. One person can always make a difference but a vital part of social change is the power of numbers. Please help me change the future for these children by donating any items listed below.  It can be as simple as ordering a $5 box of pencils here on Amazon. My goal is to have each child at the school receive some new item. Because it’s a beautiful feeling they gave me, it’s a beautiful smile they put on my face – which stayed there my whole drive down the dirt road back to the Outrigger – and I’d like to return the favor.

Ship your items to this address by February 19th:

My Class is so excited to help with this. We’ll also be sending valentine’s Day cards and letters in our package too.
    Every little bit helps.
    Thanks for this idea.

Hello, we are flying out from Australia to Fiji on the 29th March and staying at the Outrigger! We are hoping to be able to take our young children to the local school you speak of! Do they do organised trips from the Outrigger? We are looking to take out some things for the kids so thank you for the list we will make sure we stick up in all those bits!

Yes they do! When you check in just ask about visiting and they will arrange it! Also tell them that you saw Five Take Flight there!
