My True North

It was the 4th of July. In the United States of America it is the day we observe our Independence Day. Freedom’s celebrated. Whatever your freedom may be. It can be privilege to work for yourself, to have the family that you want, the right to be your authentic self -in a world that says you are different or wrong. Freedom takes work, courage, and strength -that we don’t always feel like we have. There are moments when life can overwhelm us, when we feel like we won’t make it. I’ve been there. If you haven’t been there yet, sorry to say, you will. There was a time in my country when people unfortunately felt like they had the right to determine another’s freedom. When the horrific practice of slavery was going on, the stars where used by the Underground Railroad to guide them. Harriet Tubman reached her personal freedom then decided to help others.

If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If there’s shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.

-Harriet Tubman

I started following the stars this last year. I’ve become my own True North. I can feel my young heart is still full of life and time. Time to take all the roads and crossings that I’ve been planning on. I like to live big, wild, and free. I am lucky that Derek can handle the real me. That he genuinely loves me the way that I came to him. My young soul and out-bound heart he holds night after night. My safety is his.

Where I wander this year is just an experience I am having. In actuality, I will be home the whole time with my family. I’ve always forged my own path and it’s never been a straight path, but it’s been mine. It is marked in the skies. I’ve found my own North, trust in myself. My family is near finding our personal views of what freedom is for our family. To be happy, fall in love, and travel.

We are finding our freedom. I hope you are able to find yours. If you haven’t found it yet, if you want the taste of freedom, keep going. It’s Ok if you’re scared, sometimes I am too.

Oh how sweet! To see Bar B Ranch that Porter has talked about for years! And to see Porter ride a bike! And to see Desi (with a short hair cut!)and Scarlett. What amazing adventures! The fort you built in Washington is something every child needs to do! And find goose eggs and open them ~ amazing! How many exclamation points can I use?? This brings tears to my eyes and love in my heart. Give Porter all my love!
