Sep 27, 2017 Hi! I’m Alexandra the Five Take Flight Nanny
I’m sure you’ve come here wondering who is this nanny? And how in the world did she get so lucky? I don’t have the answer to the second question for you but what I can do is answer the first!
My name is Alexandra, I’m Icelandic and I’ve had the wonderful opportunity of growing up in several different places. Due to my parents business they’re free to live wherever they like and hence I got to experience living in the wild and excluded countryside in Iceland, the rainy but charming south coast of England and also sunny Spain!
My character has very much been influenced by this and I would therefore say I’ve got the outgoing nature of an Icelander, the politeness (and accent) of the English and the liveliness of a Latino!
I always strive to be a positive and happy person and my main goal in life is to improve and learn to become a better version of myself; And I have to say I feel super lucky to get to spend this year with the Tillotson’s. I already feel I can learn a lotfrom them, their positive attributes, habits, and the wonderful family unit that they represent.
I thought I’d share a little “fun fact” about me, something that most people don’t know, but all my jewellery holds some sort of meaning to me and/or has a story behind it. I would like to share one of them with you. You see I’ve had a few comments about the necklace I always wear. My grandmother used to wear one just like it before she passed away, and my grandfather let me borrow it for a while. Then when we were all moving to England, he presented me with this necklace saying that now I could always have her with me wherever I go. Today the meaning of this necklace has evolved even further, and I feel the three crosses represent my grandma, grandad and step-gran whom all mean the world to me and I’m so blessed to have in my life. Every piece I wear has a story, because each time I see them they bring warmth to my heart, gratitude for life and love.
Without wanting to keep this too long I’m just going to share that this is a huge dream come true for me! I love children and teaching, and travelling has been on my dream board since I was 14 years old; anyone that knows me knows that I’ve been working towards that dream for many years.
My dream destination? Bora Bora! If you haven’t heard of it, look it up! I dream to stay in one of those overwater bungalows and rent a bike to cycle around the island for the day.
One last thing I want to share with you all. Back in January when I saw the “WE NEED HELP. Travel Nanny Wanted” video I wasn’t going to apply. (Can you believe it?!?) I thought to myself that they must have had so many applicants already and the common thought of “why would they choose me?” crawled into my mind. Thank god for my amazing parents who talked some sense into me. I decided that what mattered was that I would give it my all, because then, even if I didn’t get it, at least I could be happy knowing I went after my dream. Think about it, how can you ever expect your dreams to come true if you don’t go after them? The worst that can happen is that you get a ‘No’, and then you’ll just know that you need to achieve your dream in a different way or move on to something else which sometimes ends up being better.
I’m sharing this in the hope that you realise that you should always, always go after what you want, no matter how crazy it seems! Because look where that got me, and think of all the places it will get you!
I will be sharing my experiences and journey along the way mainly on Instagram so feel free to follow me on there at @alaalexandra if you wouldlike to see and know more.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and wherever you are in the world, I hope you’re having an awesome day!!
