Dec 30, 2018 New Year New Thoughts – My Year Of Abundance
A year isn’t simply good or bad. It’s a complex internal question where we asses how our character was strengthened and weakened during the past 12 months. A year is both good and bad- always. There is always growth in a year, whether we grow upwards or downwards in our nature depends on how we take the experiences that made us cry, laugh, stress, and love. With a New Year approaching it’s natural that we become reflective. We set goals, change habits, add habits, etc… Personally I’ve done away with goals. I don’t do resolutions but focus on a word that will be my motif for the next year.
2018 was my Year of Creativity. We focused on using our artistry to create weekly family Vlogs of our travels and pictures, I started writing a book, Derek invented something, and will start production soon (stay tuned!), along with writing several times a week for this blog. Everything we did in 2018 we did with the intention of making it our year of creative inspiration.
For 2019 it is my Year of Abundance. I mean mental abundance not material excess. From childhood I have held onto feelings that there isn’t enough for all, a scarcity mindset. If something positive is given in the form of an experience, gift, or an advancement by someone close to me my mind almost immediately makes me feel that by them gaining something means that something was taken from me. I was raised in a divorced family where money for clothes, schooling, or dance lessons was not only a stress that my parents had, it was a stress that I internalized too. I felt a constant shortage in my youth and I have kept those feelings with me into adulthood where they don’t apply to my life anymore. So my intention is to remind myself all year long that there is enough for all.
In the book the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People it states, “Whatever is the center of your life will be the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power.” My center this year is focusing on a constant mental state of increase as I enter this year of Mental Abundance. Happy New Year!
