thank you!

We are overwhelmed and amazed by the number of people who have caught this dream with us. You sing better, make better movies, take way better pictures than us, and are more qualified to watch our kids than we are! We are filled with appreciation. You are willing to leave your lives, friends, and families to be with us for a year. There is no greater compliment.

We accidentally created a community with our Nanny Video. I feel like we have made a huge worldly connection with kindred spirits. I want our viewers to feel like each time they come to our site or page that they can breath a sigh of relief, knowing that there will only be positive content and people here. I am doing this for my benefit but also for yours. I want you to feel like this is a safe place. That you won’t leave with any sort of hostility attached to your visit due to an unkind comment, thought, or remark. Dreams are sacred here, and we’ll never tear yours down.

This is my goal. Attainable? I think so.

Here are a few funny answers and stats from the survey that you filled out. Your answers and insights have been hilarious and inspirational.

For colors:
Listing the color as your first choice 4% of you like the color Red, Beckett’s favorite color

5 of you said, “Sorry boys…it’s pink!”
one person’s favorite color is salmon
one person said raspberry pink

Out of Characters:
two people are Rex from Toy Story

one person said they are 100% the Bird from the movie Up!

Your answers are captivating on why you would like to travel with us. We’ve decided to make an in home coffee table book on this response alone. It is just for our family to enjoy and reflect upon. We hope that is Ok.

We are all discovering what life truly has to offer us personally. We hope that your course will migrate with ours and that might not be physically.

We can’t control everything that happens to us in life. Our control is in our desires, the purity of our motives, and the wholeheartedness of our efforts. Still, let us all take flight together. Let us start with fulfilling our lives and see where it takes us.

I just wanted to say this whole experience is so exciting and inspirational. I’m about to finish my masters degree in elementary education and wanted to take a break from school and give back to the rest of the world! I have been so stuck deciding how I was going to do this. Basically I need to be around kids… like all the time, they’re what I love for. This experience could not have come at a better time, not to mention be more perfect. You guys are doing something so unimaginably incredible and your kids will thank you when they are older. From a teachers standpoint, exposure to new things is one of the best things you can do for your kids! You are making a difference just by your passion to do what you love. I know I’m against millions but doing this in general fuels my fire in continuing my dream of teaching and traveling and I thank you guys so much for being so cool 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing both your families dream and this amazing family adventure with all of us. I applied (the google drive) that very first evening while grilling dinner for my nanny kids. My boss was definietly supportive. For me the traveling would be the icing on the cake. As a career nanny, to be able to combine a dream with what I love doing (being a nanny) would be amazing. I know the odds are slim, so regardless I am looking forward to following your journey. Even if that’s through FB and YouTube. Best of luck getting though all those applications/emails. Sounds like a full-time job. Happy Sunday!

I think we’re the one that should thank you! So many people had the chance to apply for what could be THE dream job. In just a couple of days, you guys put joy and hope in our lives. Even if you just take one person, you guys made us believe that it was possible. I’m pretty sure that more people will now travel even if they have kids, jobs, and even if they don’t have a lot of money. You gave us the trust that it was possible, and I thank you for that. For my part, I now know that it would be something that I will do in the futur, and I hope that our journey will eventually come together so that we have a chance to meet. Good luck guys!

The great thing about this entire process is that sweet baby Wren is too little to remember much of it so in another 4 or 5 years you will have to do it all again! Who knows, by then there may be another adorable little fair maiden who will also need to have experience a true connection with the people of the world 😉

I applied…Ha, at least I believe I did. I’m still new to this whole “social media” thing. Not sure if anything I “forwarded” actually was received on your end. Hopefully it was (video, answers to questions and imessage) and it’s not floating somewhere in space in someone’s “cloud”. 😮

Anyhow, this “social media/video” thing was an experience, alone…only took me several takes. :I I didn’t realize I was limited to a few seconds (as you can tell – I can talk). It was tough trying to cram my thoughts in less than a minute. It wasn’t until after the deadline (yes, the video was sent last night with just minutes to spare) I realized I could have tagged on several more videos. Hopefully you live by the motto…”less is more” 😉

Well, the whole experience was spontaneous, fun and enlightening. I’m glad I participated, no matter the outcome. It was wonderful getting to know your beautiful family via facbook and your website. I love your heartfelt videos, blogs and comments.

But I have to admit…I do not envy you right know. You have a long, arduous task ahead of you right now. I can not imagine having to pick the one perfect person out of thousands of perfect people to care for your prescious children.

May GOD highlight to you a PERFECT selection of HIS chosing, and may your family be forever blessed with him or her.

GOD Bless your family and your travels!!!

    Hello guys 🙂

I may have been too late in applying 🙁 Still unable to send my video to you as am waiting for your reply on Insta. In any case, your family’s dream is becoming an inspiration to many and together with your nanny if choice, you will continue to inspire and uplift all of your followers. This is truly amazing. I cannot wait to follow you on your journey (if not physically, then remotely) and when you hit Asia, please please let me host you in my beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia. We have the best of east meets west! And the food here ?? You HAVE to visit!

All the very best in your process as well as come July, when you start making memories and building dreams. XOXO

I am just finding this and I’m so disappointed I did not have the opportunity to file and application. I’ve been a mom, grandmother, caregiver to both my parents before they passed. That’s the nature of my personality……to give and not take. Since my mother passed away last April, I literally have no baggage to make a huge transition into a nomadic life for a year. My two children are grown, and I have two grandsons, ages 2.8 years, and one 4 months old. I teach Sunday School to pre-schoolers. If no one jumps out, and you’d like a well traveled surrogate mother/grandmother who is young at heart, and loves the wonder of children and their upbringing, please let me know. I never saw the application, but I do know that God is calling me to do something completely unique. I can’t imagine what could be a better scenario… travel with kids, and young adults and see the world while learning at the same time. God bless, and may he lead you to the exact person for this job. Suzanne aka Gigi to my grandson.

Although I have applied for joining you on this grand adventure as a nanny,I’d also like to tell you that whether or not I’m the lucky one chosen, watching your nanny video,as well as binging the rest of your YouTube channel afterwards and checking out your blog and Instagram, has re-inspired and re-motivated me to follow my personal dreams of traveling the world and being adventurous. So,an enormous thank you from me to your family for bringing to life the person I am and hope to become! I can’t fully express how grateful I am to be even a small part of this process you are going through and I pray the Lord guides you in the decision you are faced with in finding the perfect person to join you on this adventure. This was beautiful and reassuring.

I am one of your applicants. I felt a bit harassing trying to get to know you through your social media and blogs as well as try to give you a small hint as to who I am. As I read more I felt less concerned. You and your family give a very welcoming vibe. I do want to apologize for all the notifications you’re probably getting from me in particular. I just get excited every time I see something you’ve posted that I can make a connection to. ( my name is Amanda my brother/ heros name is Derek …the first connection I made ) I am HONORED that my response may be on your coffee table somewhere someday.

Thank you for allowing me to apply for the idea I have been most excited about in years. Your little bird and boys deserve the best. I hope you find exactly who God has set aside for you

    Hi five take flight-family,
I’m kind of stalking you guys with comments here and there, simply because I’m so disappointed I found out this morning (Europe(s) time zone) I couldn’t apply anymore. The reason for me being late is that I wanted to talk this through with my boyfriend because it is a big thing. And since my boyfriend was on the road in Mexico and we needed to Skype it was a little more difficult… But we decided I should go for it! And then I couldn’t apply.
This way I hope to grab your attention just for a second so you can get my application off the waiting list and/or read my résumé. I believe I truly have something to offer for you guys too and I think we might be a match made in heaven! 😉

Many get the opportunity I am fortunate to be one of them. And live permanently in Canada. For all these I am so thankful to my creator and to all the people who had been part of my life. Now, I Thank you and your whole family for this wonderful ideas and making us believing in our dreams. I will be following your journey and through you will enjoy the feelings. I put my application and even if I am not chosen, I am thankful for the opportunity. God bless and take care of you and the whole community you have created.

First of all thank you so much for the opportunity to even apply and possibly be considered. I can’t imagine how overwhelmed you may be with all the applicants and I hope you find someone of course who fits your family and needs perfectly. Although I of course hope and pray I am chosen or even considered, what matters most is that you find someone who loves you and your children as much as they would their own family! That’s one thing I’ve learned in my time at Disney; some kids will wait hours to meet you, some have waited their entire lives for that moment. And when the characters show them love back there is a true magic that can’t be explained. I don’t know that I’ve ever appreciated and loved the innocence of a child as much as I do now after spending day in and day out with them. There is nothing as sweet and fervent than knowing you’ve touched a child’s heart, even if for a short time. And that’s why I do what I do. And I’m sure whoever you choose will feel the same feelings for and your family. Blessings to you all! I know the decision will be tough and I pray you find the right fit and have the Best Year Ever!!!!

I just wanted to thank you guys for giving the community such an amazing opportunity. My mom showed me your video and I was so excited to apply. A few weeks ago I didn’t know what I wanted to do after I graduate high school; I then watched your video. I realized, as I was watching, that this is the direction I want to go. I want to travel. I have always loved the idea of traveling. I’ve lived in the same state for my entire life, and the farthest I’ve travel is New York and the Bahamas. I applied for this job because I LOVE kids and working with them. I’ve been babysitting since I was 12, and I even took a class to be certified in child care. I wanted to thank you guys, because even though one individual will have the opportunity to share your adventure with you guys, yiu have inspired so many people. For me personally, yiur family was the one to send the spark of where I want to go after I graduate.
So again, just thank you, and I hope I get to know your kids and share this opportunity with your family.❤

Posted at 16:32h, 12 January Reply

I am posting a recommendation letter here as there was no upload function:
    March 7, 2016

    To whom it may concern,

We are honored to write a recommendation letter for Christien van den Berg (“Chrissie”). When she asked if we would be willing to serve as a reference for her as she pursues the next chapter in her life, it was hands down a no brainer reply – YES! Our household is one in which both parents work full time. This means one big difference for our Au Pair – she has to RUN THE SHOW!

This is no simple task as we both work long hours with some travel and have three children who, at the time our Au Pair arrived, were all age 4 or under (including a newborn). Today the children are 6, 4 and 2. No one is in school full time, no one can (fully) dress themselves, no one can prepare their own snacks or fill their own cups (without some spills) and everyone is going in a different direction. Bottom line… it’s all hands on deck, all the time! I needed her to run the business of our home like we run our businesses in the office. And she was up for the challenge. I would hire Chrissie to work in any home or office any time.

With two full time jobs outside the home and three full time jobs at home, our schedules are pretty much insane. We were multi-tasking our way through each day – trying to get through countless to-do lists while attempting to engage with our children. Enter Chrissie – a driven, smart, energetic, creative and thoughtful ANGEL from South Africa. To be completely honest, I was skeptical about the Au Pair concept – not really sure what it would be like to have someone living with us. Chrissie joined our family last summer and we have never looked back. Our children adore Chrissie – their faces light up when she enters the room, and our adult friends admire and respect her. I need someone that I trust loves my children (almost) as much as I do and has their best interests at heart. I need to know that they are protected and deeply taken care of when I am away. I need to trust that the person in charge of them is both competent and confident. Chrissie strikes that tough balance between running a tight ship and letting them grow and learn and make messes as children should. This ability to fit into various situations and manage all kinds of people (children and adults) is part of what will make Chrissie successful in the future.

Before Chrissie came, we got home from our day jobs and had to jump into what started to feel like our night jobs – bath, brush teeth, books, bedtime. During all of which we attempted to extract some details of our children’s day and sneak in some bonding. The enjoyment of these every day activities was overshadowed by our exhaustion. Now, even though our time in the evenings is still limited, we have time for a little FUN! Chrissie is always two steps ahead of me – one day I left early for meetings in NYC. I completely forgot it was my day to drive carpool. I called frantically from the train and sure enough, Chrissie was in the car with the whole carpool on the way to nursery school. She hadn’t missed a beat. WHEW!

It’s this keen attention to detail and commitment to excellence that make Chrissie such a great hire. You know that when you delegate a task to her – not only does it get done, it’s done on time and accurately! She is also incredibly trustworthy and loyal – keys to success for everyone from an au pair to a business executive. And Chrissie is capable of each of those roles as well as everything in between. She will make an impressive and worthwhile addition to your team and will no doubt add enormous value to your organization.

In conclusion, Chrissie not only runs the show in our house, but she makes each day better for each person in our family. She allows me to dedicate myself to my career during the day and my family at night and attempt to be successful at both! She gives us the gift of time… something for which we will forever be indebted to her. We wish her the utmost success and congratulate you if you are the lucky person who hires her.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or if we can tell you more about Chrissie.

I do have their contact details, They are based in Connecticut.

My whole life was living in this environment, first helping my parents to take care of my brothers, then as the first family member to go For college, I graduated in early childhood education and for adorable 25 years I taught the first words to almost a thousand people who today cry not being me teaching their children, I always invented something to get their attention, sang, invented rhymes and many times The students from other rooms came to participate too. I love children very much and today I spend my time with my goddaughter Valentina who helps me to reduce the lack of school. I love imagining traveling the world, if I have the opportunity, I’ll know how to enjoy it in the best way possible. Congratulations on giving us all this great chance and we’ll meet in July. Wow, I am so encouraged to read through your notes! Your family is offering powerful words and joy all around the world. The kind of connections you have made and will make all along your journey is one people will not forget. The touch of love you are sharing will change lives, and build hope for the better. You have opened others minds to fulfill a dream they once held, and now strive to live. May the Lord bless your family on this incredible journey and life changing experience.

I saw this video a couple of weeks ago and was planning to apply. I am so upset I missed the chance. My experience is limitless though. I have been working with children since age 12. I currently work at a daycare right now and have my Early Childhood Education Assistant License but plan to have my full license in June. I work with infants and toddlers but have experience with all ages. I would love this opportunity and I hope it is not too late but I have a feeling it is :/.

I love your story and your reasons for taking this year with your family! I am a single mother who is homeschooling my sweet, fun 5 yr old son. He is pretty much obsessed with the idea of traveling the world. Would you ever consider a nanny with a 5 yr old cohort?
